Executive Summary

This data report is designed to meet the reporting requirements of the Center for Disease Control's Uniform Data Set. The Uniform Data Set is intended to track use of funds under the Rape Prevention Education Program. These data are not intended to provide accurate incidence data and are only reported for those activities for which agencies are funded. The contractors funded for the 1999 fiscal year were Behavioral Health Agency of Central Arizona, Center Against Sexual Abuse, Mount Graham Safe House, Northland Family Help Center, Our Town Family Help Center, Peer Solutions, Inc., and Tucson Rape Crisis Center.

The Data Summary reviews the aggregate results of all of the programs for this fiscal year and compares it to the previous fiscal years. A graph of the number of forcible rapes from 1995 to 1999 in Arizona and in cities where rape prevention education is or has been funded is provided. The detailed results by program are presented in the following tables: People Educated by Contractor, Programs Presented by Contractor, Organizations by Type and Contractor, Counseling by Contractor, and Toll-Free Hotline Calls by Contractor. Also attached are the Quarterly Rape Prevention Education Data Form used to collect the data from Rape Prevention Education Program contractors in 1999.

The data items reported are a compilation of information reported to the investigators by the data sources and as
such is subject to the following disclaimers:

· Definitions
Definitions are not necessarily consistent across sources.

· Quality
The quality of the data reported by sources is questionable. Information reported to these investigators is not
necessarily the same as that reported to other organizations by these sources.

· Availability
Some information is not available because the sources could not or did not provide it. All of the numbers
reported in the summary table are to some extent affected by missing data. Those interested in interpreting
these data items are urged to pay close attention to the individual tables and to take the non-availability of data
into account when attempting to draw conclusion.

· Duplication
Police data are unduplicated because reports are separated by precinct. However, duplication of cases may
occur and is particularly likely among certain service providers. Women may seek multiple services following
a victimization and there is currently no way to track individuals either within or across providers.

· Validity
Both genders and all ages may be included in the data items. Gender and age are not consistently disaggregated
by data sources. Where known, the gender and age compositions of the data items are noted in the individual
tables.
