2006 Updates
January 2006 - Heather Ballard from Mt. Graham Safe House enthusiastically welcomes in the new year by reflecting on her goals and plans for rape prevention and education activities in 2006. Her resolutions include providing rape prevention and education programs to rural schools and developing a peer education group.
February 2006 - This month Nicole P. Yuan from the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health summarizes the advantages, obstacles, and opportunities for collaborations between researchers and prevention providers to reduce sexual violence in the community.
March 2006 - This month Jennifer Rauhouse describes the innovative activities offered by Peer Solutions Inc. (PSI) to end sexual violence. One of the activities is STAND & SERVE, a peer-facilitated prevention and intervention support program promoting peace, respect, empathy, and personal responsibility.
April 2006 - This month Cheryl Teller from Ama Doo Alchini Bighan, Inc. (A.D.A.B.I.) in the Chinle Agency describes her experiences as a community educator on the Navajo reservation. She presents some of the unique cultural barriers of conducting rape prevention and education in the community.
May 2006 - Melita Quance from the Wingspan Anti-Violence Project describes her passion to develop a sexual violence prevention program that specifically targets LGBTQ youth. Although there are hurdles in this area, Melita has identified some possible solutions.
June 2006 - Alba Jaramillo from the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault tells us about the Tucson Youth Take Back the Night she organized in April. Although the event faced many challenges, she overcame them to produce a success that touched the lives of many young teens.
July 2006 - Tom Reardon from the Casa - Center for Prevention of Abuse & Violence reflects on his "Lessons Learned from Spending Lots of Time in the Field" or, alternately, "How I learned to stop worrying and love teachers and school administrators regardless of their appreciation for Rape Prevention and
Education."
August 2006 - Northland Family Help Center introduces their latest collaboration: the Men Against Rape and Sexism Program at Northern Arizona University.
September 2006 - Our Family Teen Theatre Program talks about the impact their program has had on their youth volunteers.
October 2006- ASU's Home Safe Program introduces their Men Advocating Awareness of Rape and Sexism (MARS) program, in collaboration with Northland Family Help Center, Northern Arizona University and the OASIS Program at the University of Arizona.
